An Article That Reveals The Truth About The Origin Of Music

Music is something that can be enjoyed by all of us no matter what the age, religion and culture we are from. It can be played from simple music boxes and radio sets to the more up to date iPod music players. But what it is about music that makes people love it?

Various theories have been formulated on the origin of music. The history of music is today divided into five musical eras. First among these is the prehistoric era which covers all music produced in the preliterate cultures. Examples of music during this era are traditional Native American Music and Australian Aboriginal Music. Next is the Ancient Music era which is the name given to the music that followed the ending of the prehistoric era marked by the development of writing. The oldest known song was composed during this era around 4,000 years ago. Next is the Early Music Era which spanned from 500AD-1560. Included in this period are music produced in the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. The fourth of the five musical eras is the Common Practice Era which covers the period from 1600-1900. Music produced during the classical and romantic periods are included in this era. Finally, there is the Modern or Contemporary Era which is the music era that started in the 20th Century and continues today.

Various instruments have been produced during the different music eras which are used for the purpose of accompanying and playing music. The first of this music related items is the music box which was created in Switzerland in 1811. Come 1876, the first working piano known as the Pianola was created and exhibited in Philadelphia. Thomas Edison on the hand invented the phonograph in 1877 which is the first item to be used in recording and playing back sounds. The phonograph was soon replaced by radio sets which were used to listen to radio broadcast from various radio stations like the called KDKA Radio in Pittsburgh, PA.

Over the years that followed various devices were invented to record and play music. It was 1963, though, when the music industry was revolutionized with the introduction of cassette tapes that dominated the market throughout the 1980s. Sony's "Walkman"-which became a must-have item for music aficionados and teenagers of that time-also used the cassette tape technology. Come 1982, the new format for recording and playing back music was introduced through the compact disc. Then, on the years that followed, more and more technologically advanced music players were introduced with the iPod among the most popular music players today.

But why is music so loved by people that they play them in various music players from simple radio sets to iPhones. There were six top reason cited for people's love for music. First is people's regard for music as a universal language that bridges gaps between cultures that spoken language cannot. Next, music helps people evoke moods and feelings that are sometimes difficult to express. Music also enhances learning with various scientific studies proving the function music plays in the enhancement of brain functioning. Another reason cited for people's love for music is the ambiance it creates, enhancing any environment where it is played. Also, music is used by all religions to help them express spiritual values. Finally, music is a simple pleasure that only requires your ears and imagination.

Music will always be part of our lives. Whether we listen to one from our iPods or from simple radio sets, listening to music is a practice already ingrained in our cultures-however different our cultures may be.

Is Hi Fi Music Now Better Than Real Life

The term Hi-Fi has been about for a long time - long enough that it feels like it should be old skool. But the requirement for real Hi-Fi sound stays very up-to-date; it's now usually relevant to Hi-Fi audio, mobile iPods and home theatre systems - but recall the term is short for "high fidelity".

Words evolve and lose connection with their original meanings. So , Hi-Fi came to mean a set of devices - a disk player, a receiver, some surround sound speakers - for playing music. This now extends to a greater range of option: more speaker types such as subwoofers, tweeters and headphones, more technologies like MP3, CDs DVDs, surround sound, dolby, blue ray. And let's face it, even the most modest iPods, modern disc player or perhaps radio produces "high fidelity" compared to those available 50 years ago.

Back then, "high fidelity" indicated kit capable of delivering a quality of sound performance superior to that other units, which were, well, lower fidelity. Fidelity - being truthful, being faithful to the original. The memorable old HMV symbol of the dog close to the phonograph immediately sent the message - that what he, the dog, heard was a true rendition of the real sound.

Perhaps virtually all real Hi-Fi sound systems available through online or sold nowadays are indeed high fidelity, but some are much higher than others. The hunt for ever-higher fidelity goes on and annually sees further advancements with systems which are now extraordinarily good. But then, anyone who has put on a high-quality set of headphones to listen to a musical performance recorded under modern concert conditions can swear to something which is a bit of a Hi-Fi conundrum: specifically, the recording sounds better than any original - so it's truly not giving you high fidelity. Far from it in fact.

How can this be so? Well, it comes down to the undeniable fact that life, real life, is rarely going to be perfect, whereas, the technology of sound creation and reproduction gets better and better, in the general direction of its own definition of perfection.

You sit in a concert music hall, a recital hall, and listen to a performance. The sound relationships between, say, the first violins and the trumpets varies from position to position in the concert hall, with only 1 'perfect ' spot. But then it's not perfect for the balance between the violins and the tympani. Then there ambient noise - call it jumble or interference.

This real life musical experience is not necessarily something we wish to reproduce with great fidelity - it's not quite good enough. We're not after a steadfast fax of real life, but some higher ideal.

Hence relax and enjoy: put on the headphones or the surround sound speakers and turn on the CD, iPod or MP3. Hi-fi kit and all the associated technology can deliver to you, and quite cheaply, an audio experience which can actually be called divine since it overreaches what you can experience in 'real ' life.

Crosley Record Players As well as the History In the Phonograph

The varying later direction (VLD) caught on really quickly, and incredibly soon Edison's original hill-and-dale process was no longer in use.

It wasn't extended prior to mass production of disk records became feasible once Emile Berliner invented the matrix record. This master copy enabled duplicate records being created indefinitely. At this point, players were nonetheless running off from the power of the hand crank. But as soon as the late 19th century rolled around, so did electricity. Soon after the electronic record player was released. Contrary to the hand-cranked record players that would vary in speed according to the strength from the person, electronic players provided consistent speed. This meant that there was zero variation inside the music's tempo.

In due course, record players grew to become so well liked that entire families gathered around them in order to consume pleasure in top quality entertainment. Phonographic Memories

I love music and I have lots of youthful recollections concerning it. My dad and mom love the timeless tunes, they could move to the beat in our living room even without shoes on. I had watched the two of them swing to the old songs of Glenn Miller, Guy Lombardo and Sinatra. My mom and dad are the top jiggerbuggers there is. During Saturday nights, my parents had get-togethers in the house and the music would keep playing after I retreated to my bed. As I rested my back on the bed, the beat of the music and the laughter of visitors below were what I listened to. Dozing off to dreamland that way was very enjoyable. From time to time they would allow me to hang around even during late hours and look at them dance, and in my father's arms, I moved to the sound, also. I will never forget those delightful experiences and they will forever be valued in my heart. Possessing my own phonograph was what my parents wished for me and they gifted me one as I got older. My phonograph sung out the music of Elvis Presley, Doris Day, the Beatles and especially Motown because it's what I like the most. Mr. Edison created the phonograph and because of him, I get to play great music of great musicians and enjoy it a lot. Well, kudos to you!

When Mr. Thomas Alva Edison made a recording of the phrase taken from the nursery rhyme "Mary had a little lamb" in 1877, in the month of October, this pioneered the procedures of recording sounds for man. The community eventually dwindling interest on Mr. Edison's creation came as a surprise. From the invention to forming a prototype, to conducting an illustration at the New York's Scientific American, the Edison Speaking Phonograph Company was then established in the year 1878. Mass production of the recording playing gadget started, and many were promoted causing the phonograph an instant sensation. The interest of society nevertheless weakened after all of it. After the phonograph's downfall, Edison toiled on discovering the incandescent bulb instead.

Perhaps, Thomas Edison thought it as a challenge when Alexander Graham Bell, with his cousin Chichester A. Bell and a scientist and instrument builder whose name was Charles Sumner Tainter submitted an application for a patent on his phonograph in 1886, on May 4th. As a result, it made Edison act on improving his machine.Bell and Tainter approached Edison for a likely collaboration, on the contrary Edison would not hear of it ( joking aside), snubbed and made a better, more developed style of the machine itself. For his developed invention to sell in the market, Edison formed the Edison Phonograph Company in 1887 on the 8th of October. Well, you can forget about the rest.

The record playing instrument went on to advance, and instead of cylinders utilized for recording, the generation of the record, LP's launched a totally new world. The improved version made better sounds and the play time was lengthy and had minimal intermissions.

Phonograph turntables nowadays are still obtainable in the market. Do you still have those records from your father and mother or yours maybe? I still keep my parents' favorite records as well as my own Elvis compilation and all of them still produce music and sound terrific also. A phonograph with a radio, cassette player and recorder - these are the latest phonographs that you can have nowadays that provide enjoyment in various ways.You can also obtain additional or replacement needles for them.

It is always an enigma to me every time the needle strokes the record, it just sends me back in the past, during the days when everyone was in a joyous mood moving their bodies to the beat and being entertained. It was such a joyful memory.

A History of The Record Player

Nowadays we have digital video disks , CDs, MP3s, and of course the web for all our music needs. However, none of those would have been likely if it weren't for the invention of the record player, one of the more significant components of musical technology of all time. It was so pioneering that after its invention in 1877, almost 100 years passed prior to it was replaced by newer technology. And even now, record players carry an oldtime musical feel that makes them very well liked by music listeners around the globe. Nowadays, anytime one thinks of a turntable, it's often the Technics or perhaps the Crosley Record Player. But over a hundred years ago, the name which was of most importance was Thomas Edison.

In 1877, Thomas Edison created what he referred to as the phonograph. Edison's first records were manufactured of tinfoil. These records featured a spiral groove that went up and down the surface area. A hand-cranked device which had a needle, or stylus, was utilized to read the grooves vibrating based on the feel. At this time, record players were still powered by the hand crank. But when the late 19th century rolled around, so did electricity. Then soon after the electric-powered record player was introduced. Contrary to the hand-cranked record players which can range in speed based on the strength of the operator, electrical players provided consistent speed. This resulted in absolutely no variation in the tempo of the music.

Gradually, record players became so well liked that whole households gathered around them to take pleasure in quality entertainment. Early methods of the prior-song and skip-song functions of today's Mp3 players were introduced around this time. In order to choose which song was to be played, a person placed the needle in one of the blank grooves in between the textured ones. For many years, the record player was a favorite possession of music fans everywhere.

With the advent of the seventies came cassette-tape decks and 8-track players, and soon, records and record players seemed to be phasing out. However, when DJs became all the rage in night clubs and discos, the turntable remained strong.

No matter what technology throws at us, fans of music will always appreciate the record player!
