Low Cost But Dull Sound - Wifi Headphones Review

By Natalie Williams

They look great. They are a sleek charcoal/black and the charging cradle looks very cool and saves a little bit of desk space instead of having to lay down a giant pair of headphones like I used to.

I get perfect reception in 97 percent of my two story house and most of the back yard. They make house work a LOT less boring.

Very comfortable and out on patio with great volume. The grandkids can I watch TV. These are open phones and provide absolutely no isolation from ambient noise. If you want sound isolation, consider the Sennheiser RS 170 closed wireless phones; also sold on Amazon. This out-of-phase problem is not something I hadn't heard about before. Prior to purchasing the 180's I read reviews to the extent they existed (the 180's are a new product) and found a review where this problem was pointed out.

I haven't listened to anything that would test the sound quality tremendously, but what I have listened to is fine. It may be a little light on bass effects in movies, but OK for music.

The sound quality has always been great relative to other headphones I have tried, and I had no reason to change to another model except for two things. First, the rotary volume control can easily change if you are lying down and make contact against the controls. For our installation, at least, it was an annoyance to have the charger integrated with the transmitter. The transmitter has to be physically tied to the TV sound source with a cable, which limits your choices for where to plug in the charging station. I can listen at any level I wish and no one is disturbed. In addition, the sound quality is superb.

I have used the Sennheiser RS-130 for the past 4 years, and the surround sound was incredible and delicious. My main uses are for Blu-ray movies and late night TV viewing as to not disturb any neighbors, plus it's an intimate experience without any street noise.

The two AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries will run the cans for 24 hours, and all I have to do to recharge them is to "hang" the headset on the transmitter. There's nothing to plug in. If the sound source will be on at times when you're wearing the 180's, you will probably be bothered by this. These headphones were a replacement for a set of 5 year old Sennheiser RS120 headphones that we wore out (which had in turn replaced a cheaper set of headphones). Also, you have to turn the base on to listen to stuff. The previous models turned on automatically when there was a signal. Setup was quick and easy. The base station charges the headphones when you place them on top, which I do at the end of the day.

Creaking Plastic :: Cheap Construction - Sennheiser Rs120 Wireless Headphones Review

By Dylan Martinez

They just take some getting used to. All things considered, I highly recommend them. When they're ready, start the source, hold down the button on the base for a few seconds until it blinks, and hold down the button on your headphone for a few seconds. They handle sound-levels so well that you might be a little deceived.

The evaluation system consisted of the following: Sony STR-DA5200ES, Sony (Costco) BDP-BX57, and Sony CDP-CX335. The Blu-ray player was connected via HDMI & the 400 Cd Mega-changer was hooked up via analog connects. Quickly delivered, easy to set-up, light weight, comfortable, sound fantastic, and seem well built. I only wish I could sync them directly with my iPhone 3GS. However, the headphones and base don't seem to be constructed with particularly high-quality materials. The plastic feels light and thin -- which could be a positive, but makes me, wonder whether they could break easily. I can't vouch for the range though; I have little reason to prance around with these. But as for upstairs and downstairs in the same house, no worries with these headphones. I do periodically get a brief "hiccup" in the sound when I'm in the remote areas of the house, when I'm outside grilling on the patio, and when I walk into the garage. None of those distances exceed 150 feet, so I do question whether these headphones truly have a 320-foot line-of-sight range that Sennheiser advertises. We use Sennheiser products (mics) in our Rock Band and the performance is consistent and high-end quality. I would recommend this product to others.

It may not have the high quality of the digital systems, but it has enhanced my quality time with my family. I have several brands of wireless headphones including the Senheiser models 110, 120, and now the 180. I was excited about this alone, but I also learned that the volume controls are flat and therefore will not accidentally change as per my first point made above. Here's what I found about the 180's after one day of use.

They worked really well, but were definitely lacking in sound quality, and had a handful of other shortcomings. I decided to spend more.

They have the advantage of distance over the pioneers. The pioneers have more volume but these are OK.

I can listen at any level I wish and no one is disturbed. In addition, the sound quality is superb. Battery life was great; the original batteries are still going strong. The Sound I thought was great. So, that's probably an unavoidable issue. However, all my complaints combined don't add up to the loss of a full star.

Look into the Uses and Gains with Reference to the Sony Boombox

By King Mcnulty

Music aficionado's throughout the past have at one time or another owned a massively spectacular Sony Boom Box. More affectionately known as a Ghetto-Blaster in the 1980's and 1990's era. These boxes feature radio stations and dual cassette tapes for listening and recording songs from a second cassette or favorite radio tunes. Later models changed over to compact discs and could even be recorded as well for mixes for friends and loved ones.

This is one of the most well known electronics of Sony's time. The speakers are made for extreme volume levels with the best clarity and added bass you want. You can also take them to work with you, camping and wherever else you may want to enjoy your music thanks to its ease of portability.

One of their most prized features is that they can run for hours with just batteries and carried wherever you may go. They can be plugged in to wall outlets as well when needed. Portability is the main thing these music machines were crafted for.

Japan was the leading country where these different brand of Boomers were manufactured. At the beginning they only had radio capability and then in the 1970 groovy era eight track tape players. Late 1970 and early 1980 showed the magical addition of smaller cassette tapes which played better and sounded clearer. These could even be recorded on with its dual decks of cassette tape players.

As the popularity grew and more demand from consumers the different brands became extremely competitive against one another. Each manufacturer wanted theirs to be the best, flashiest, loudest and with the most features. Soon though the big boomers were being transitioned out to more sleek, smaller designs which could be carried easily in a back pack, pocket or purse and be listened to from anywhere with battery power and much smaller earphones.

These smaller devices played cassette tapes, let you tune in to radio stations then in future years changed over to playing compact discs. The convenience of these increased their numbers in sales and the larger Boom Box versions were on a decrease. Stylish designs were added to the smaller ones as where vivid and funky colors which attracted the younger audience.

So Sony Boom Box implemented their strategy to bring people back with additional excessive features like being able to not only listen to the radio, play a compact disc or cassette tape but also enjoy the classic vinyl of the day with a built in turntable. Televisions which were very small and in black and white color were even additions on some unique models.

Musicianship and Violin Technique

By Mark Strings

How is it best to regard violin technique?

I think of it in the frame of the music itself. Music should dictate the technical means to be used. The composition and its phrases should define bowing and the tone quality employed. One should not think in terms of down-bows or up-bows.

In the Brahms concerto you can find many long phrases: they cannot be played with one bow; yet there has to be no obvious change of bow. If the player doesn't know what the phrase means; the proper way to give intepretation to it, how will he be well placed to bow it correctly?

And there are so many different nuances, especially in legato. It is as a rule produced by a slurred bow; yet it can also be produced by other bowings.

Thinking as a Violinist

To secure a good legato tone watch the singer. The singer can establish the perfect smoothness that legato calls for to perfection. To secure a like effect the violinist should convey the impression that there's no point, no frog, the bow he uses is of infinite length.

And the violinist should never think: 'I must play this up-bow or down-bow. ' Artists of the German school are more inclined to begin a phrase with a down-bow; the French begin to play a good deal at the point. Down or up, both are secondary to finding out, first of all, what quality, what balance of tone the phrase demands.

The conductor of a symphonic orchestra does not care how, technically, certain effects are produced by the violins, whether they use an up-bow or a down-bow. He only says: 'That's too heavy: give me less tone! ' The result to be achieved is always more important than the method of accomplishment.

The Phases of Violin Technical Achievement

All phases of technical accomplishment, if correctly bought, have a tendency to become 2nd nature to the player in the course of time: staccato, a brilliant trick; spiccato, the reiteration of notes played from the wrist, etc...

The martellato, a nuance of spiccato, should be played with a firm bowing at the point. In an exceedingly broad spiccato, the arm might be brought into play; or otherwise not, since it makes quick playing not possible.

Too many newbies try to play spiccato from the arm. And too many teachers are contented with a trill that is merely brilliant. Kneisel insists on what he calls a 'musical trill, ' of which Kreisler's gorgeous trill is an ideal example.

The trill of some violinists is invariably brilliant, whether brilliancy is suitable or not. Brilliant trills in Bach always appear misplaced to me; while in Paganini and in Wieniawski's Carnaval de Venise a high brilliant trill is effective.

And obviously, if you should chance to play a great instrument, say a Strad, it all gets better. A Yamaha violin could be a Strad clone that is close enough.

On Double Stops and Harmonics

As to double-stopsâ€"Edison once announced that violin music should be written only in double-stopsâ€"I practice them playing first the single notes and then the 2 together, and can recommend this mode of practice from personal experience.

Harmonics, where clearness is the most vital thing, are typically a matter of bowing, of a sure attack and sustaining by the bow. Naturally the harmonics themselves are made by the fingers; but their tone quality rests altogether with the bow.

The Features Offered By The Waldorf Blofeld Synthesizer

By Russell Strider

If you are a musician, you likely already are aware of the Waldorf Blofeld synthesizer. When you take a look at it, it is a tiny little thing and you wouldn't think that it really works. But its bite is bigger than its bark. This beautiful little steel keyboard is about two feet long and a foot wide but its shimmering dun screen and the aluminum encoders cause it to be a really satisfying instrument. It is easy to look at and equally as easy to work with. The slimline appearance helps make it very easy to transport around and it won't fail to win over viewers with the quality workmanship.

Technical Features

The Waldorf Blofeld synthesizer provides three oscilloscopes for each voice and this means that at least two are capable of delivering synthesis of tones or analogues. Though it's tiny, it manages to include almost all of the features that are necessary in a traditional synthesizer product. All this means that the product offers a flexibility that is not offered by different machines. The 3 oscillators are freely routed through two different filters and they are able to deliver a wide range of waves. You can obtain analog waves or digitizable tables that can be blended to produce the best sounds. The third is VA only but its really worth the money.

Combining those features with the top quality arpeggiator and effect slots means that these particular units include effects slots, flanger, phases, a special chorus and triple effects features that can be mixed to provide a complete selection of new features. Ideally, we would recommend that you check out each of the effects like the delay, the clocked delay and the reverberation features that are listed on Effect 2 in advance of actually attempting to mix anything. Analyze all of the functions before you begin but seriously it does not take very much time to get the hang of it.

One of the top features of the Waldorf Blofeld synthesizer is the large screen and steel knobs that make it truly easy to use. Nevertheless, the polished steel might make this model a little bit slippery. The knobs regulate the parameters of the sound creating a really great sound. The sound it delivers is normally WALDORF in nature. You may not have the ability to get fat basses due to the smaller size of the keyboard but you will get distinct and sharp sounds. If you would like you can then sharpen the sounds to make them warmer however more bass just isn't really possible.

The only real problem is that the back of the machine has only two audio outputs and it can do with many more in order to make it more versatile and easy to work with. The single MDI port is rather limited in use and two more are a definite requirement.
