Bridal Shower Themes: Party And Gift Ideas

By Lise Rina

Most popular in the United States, Canada and Australia, a bridal shower is party held for the bride-to-be. It is usually held a month or two before the wedding. It is a day set aside to honor the bride and shower her with gifts that she is going to need in her new life as a married woman. The shower is usually organized by the bridesmaids. Guests are usually female, but there are no rules. You can have a small group of close friends or a hundred friends and relatives, and any number of bridal shower themes.

Themes can bring life to the party, making it fun and interesting. A good theme will reflect the needs and interests of the bride, sometimes with different themes for gifts and party activities. For example, the gift them might be Kitchen goods, while the party theme is a Hawaiian Luau.

Kitchen shower

Kitchen parties or pantry showers are a fantastic way to help out a couple who will be moving in together for the first time. If they haven't yet go their kitchen in order, a bridal shower can be just the thing to stock their cupboards with groceries and spices, kitchen utensils and appliances. A gift card is another great option. There are plenty of great games that can be incorporated into this theme. On is 'Apron Memory, ' where the bride walks through the room wearing an apron covered in kitchen goods. After a minute she leaves, and the guests have to remember what items were attached to the apron. Another is the naming game. A number of clear containers or Ziploc bags are filled with similar-looking kitchen ingredients, like different flours and powders, and the guests try and identify all of them.

The Pajama party

Grab your favorite jamies and prepare for a girl's night in. Score manicures, pedicures, massages and facials from all your friends. Ask your guests for prezzies like bathroom accessories and cosmetics, maybe some sexy nightwear to replace your old pj's.

The Makeover theme

Everybody, grab out your makeup supplies and help paint the bride's face! Take plenty of pictures, because you are going to get some funny results while you test out different colors to wear on the wedding day. For the best advice, you might like to bring in an Avon consultant to give some expert tips.

Alphabet shower

With twenty-six or more guests you can have some fun using the letters of the alphabet. Assign one letter to each guest, and ask them to bring a gift that starts with that letter. A party game might involve guests naming an attribute of marriage that begins with that letter. This can be really interesting when you get to letters like Q and Z!

Bring Your Favorite Memories

This is a really sweet one. Guests each bring a memento or gift that reminds them of a special memory shared with the bride-to-be. Another great idea is to ask all your guests ahead of time to make a scrapbook page of treasured memories that can be assembled and presented at the bridal shower. It is an excellent way to get guests talking.
