Important Musical Terms With Sonny's Pianos

By Katie Onson

To say that learning to play an instrument is challenging would be an understatement. Fortunately, there exist a number of strategies to become truly effective at this, basic teaching being perhaps the most common. Sonny's Pianos will attest to this sentiment, especially when there are several terms to be aware of. As a matter of fact, here are just a couple of the terms in question, as well as their definitions, to help get you started.

Melody - If you want to talk about the more basic terms, as told by Sonny's Pianos & Sonny Stancarone, this is one to cover. Melody, in its most basic definition, is a string of notes that follows one another in a meaningful way. When you listen to music, regardless of the instrument being played, you want to follow along and find that the tune is smooth enough not to be taken out of the experience. This is what any musician should consider when it comes to melody.

Tempo - When a particular piece of music starts to pick up speed, this is where tempo will be most visible. Tempo is defined as the pace that music takes, usually one that is more upbeat and perhaps more difficult for some to follow. Pianists must have extensive knowledge of their instruments to create a sense of tempo, as notes are to be played in rapid succession. Without this concept set in place, it's easy to imagine that tempo will not be as prevalent.

Virtuoso - You do not have to be a music enthusiast to know that this term may refer to. A virtuoso, more than anything else, is something who is viewed as a specialist in the musical field they have applied themselves to. This individual can play a number of songs and, according to Sonny's Piano TV and Sonny Dante Stancarone, help novices learn the basics before getting into more intricate details. When you are called a "virtuoso," it's understandable that you will take it as the best praise imaginable.

Hopefully these terms have given you a better understanding of what pianos are all about. While you may have been familiar with the basic concept of these instruments, it's safe to assume that you didn't know every little feature they possessed. As a result, a piece like this can be worthwhile, especially to those who are learning how to play. Discover as much as you can, apply it to your future endeavors, and you'll get even more out of this than you might have ever imagined.
