By Anne Gregor

Establishing a career in the music business is not easy. It can't happen with one just sitting and not doing anything. Moreover, attaining success in this field doesn't happen quickly. In this competitive industry, having a successful career entails numerous things.

Musical talent is on top of this list. It is a prerequisite, for without it, there's no reason to pursue a career in this field. Those who enter this business are what other people call music smart. While they don't necessarily need to be born extremely talented, what is certain is that they possess a musical talent which can be honed.

Yet, being successful in this industry isn't just about talent. While it is a necessary prerequisite, it's not the only ingredient. The individual has to also be persistent, hard-working and driven. He has to have passion.

Pure talent can only be one's stepping stone towards a musical profession, but passion is what takes that individual closer to the summit of success. Successful musicians are usually not the most gifted in their field. However, they're where they are today because of their passion. Although they started out not being geniuses in this field, they worked hard to be the best. Their success was the result of constant practice and infinite thirst for perfection.

Therefore, musically gifted individuals who desire to be successful have to not take practice for granted. If successful musicians undergo training and don't stop, then budding artists need to do the same.

One important training aspiring artists should not skip is taking up formal music training. A music school equips its students with the knowledge and skills they need to become a great musician. This is also the venue where one learns about discipline and patience - essential traits musicians need in their quest for success.

With the needed talent and enough passion, one can really look forward to a great future in the music business. One has to keep in mind, though, that even with these two important ingredients, breaking into this competitive business is not easy. Failures and rejections will certainly come. This is why, aside from talent and passion, one should also have a strong heart.

Made For An Excellent Xmas Gift - Wireless Headphones Review Review

By Emily Martin

You can't go wrong with Sennheiser! We replaced a cheaper item with the Sennheiser RS 180 Digital Wireless Headphone System.

That said, contrary to how these headphones are described on Amazon, these headphones DON'T have "dynamic surround sound." I wish they did and I wonder why they don't, as the lower-level Model RS 170 headphones have surround sound. So, that's probably an unavoidable issue. However, all my complaints combined don't add up to the loss of a full star. It is for these two reasons that I was curious to see if Sennheiser had a solution to the line out idea. I called Sennheiser and spoke to someone who said that the 180's do have this feature. The headphones presented a very wide soundstage with ample presence but not too much "air". As I stated above these are very warm sounding headphones.

I average around 75 feet before it starts to cut out. However I have extended this range a bit by putting the transmission base as high as I can reach to put the headphones back on the base for recharging. The Sennheiser RS 180 Headphones have restored my ability to hear Television and Music with all of the Bass, Treble, Voice, and Stereo sounds. I have an 80% hearing loss, and have been looking for something that would allow me to hear well without disturbing others. Thanks to Kleer's uncompressed audio transmission technology another journey began via listening to some of my favorite Blue-rays like Oliver Stones "The Doors". The bass sounds are outstanding and precise. I listen to classical music mostly (90%) along with a bit of rock music and others (10%). To me, it took about 20 hours of listening to break in.

With a bit more smarts, the headphones could be made to standby in a low power mode, then ramp up when it detected a signal from the transmitter. Maybe that's too much to ask for the price.

The $50 pair the same company sells is nice, and great for a work headset, but this is great for watching your movies at home. After listening to these, the only reason you will not have a pair for work and home *might* be the price - love them. That's what I wanted to do with this purchase, so mission accomplished. I have a friend that has an older set (HDR 130) of these head phones and I tried them out. Cost is about four times what my Grados cost, and even a few times more than some of the less expensive Sennheiser models. The manufacturer commented on the review below. The only "real" problem I've run into so far has to do with the charging time. They're supposed to be fully charged after 18 or 20 hours if I remember correctly.

Classical or Custom--You Decide

By Gaylord Pannitron

There appears to be two schools of thought on the topic of whether or not transcripts and arrangements of classical literature offer the best choice of musical material to be used in ballet classes.

The Discussions

People who favor it point out that ballet music is precisely what the ballet students will ultimately be dancing to, so it's an obvious choice of music for use in training them. People who disagree say that the requirements of learning ballet have little to do with the discipline of performance, and therefore the music should be written for and tailored to each individual ballet exercise.

I Changed My Mind

I was clearly on the side of using transcriptions until I used the First Class Albums which were composed following the rules of the Motosonus Method. The theory behind this method is quite straightforward, however, it is also enormously powerful.

The Details

The Motosonus Method outlines an approach to composing ballet class music that concentrates on enhancing the lessons being learned in class. This is realized by consistently feeding the dancers with aural clues that essentially communicate directly with their muscles. The music creates states of rhythmic and phrased consonance and dissonance that correspond to the tension and relaxation that occurs in the dancers' muscles when the exercise is being performed properly. This is a simplified summary, nonetheless it will serve for this article.

In addition, the music pushes the dancers further by using tempo, rubato and beat placement. For example, the endings of phrases can be stretched to maximize a stretch or to inspire the dancer to hold a position just a little longer. These techniques, which perhaps seem tiny in themselves add up over a period of time to a raised level of learning and an increased level of accomplishment in less time.

How Much Does It Matter?

If you ever wondered if the music employed in ballet class truly makes a difference in the effectiveness of the teaching and the progress of the students, you need to try out music written following the Motosonus Method.
