Made For An Excellent Xmas Gift - Wireless Headphones Review Review

By Emily Martin

You can't go wrong with Sennheiser! We replaced a cheaper item with the Sennheiser RS 180 Digital Wireless Headphone System.

That said, contrary to how these headphones are described on Amazon, these headphones DON'T have "dynamic surround sound." I wish they did and I wonder why they don't, as the lower-level Model RS 170 headphones have surround sound. So, that's probably an unavoidable issue. However, all my complaints combined don't add up to the loss of a full star. It is for these two reasons that I was curious to see if Sennheiser had a solution to the line out idea. I called Sennheiser and spoke to someone who said that the 180's do have this feature. The headphones presented a very wide soundstage with ample presence but not too much "air". As I stated above these are very warm sounding headphones.

I average around 75 feet before it starts to cut out. However I have extended this range a bit by putting the transmission base as high as I can reach to put the headphones back on the base for recharging. The Sennheiser RS 180 Headphones have restored my ability to hear Television and Music with all of the Bass, Treble, Voice, and Stereo sounds. I have an 80% hearing loss, and have been looking for something that would allow me to hear well without disturbing others. Thanks to Kleer's uncompressed audio transmission technology another journey began via listening to some of my favorite Blue-rays like Oliver Stones "The Doors". The bass sounds are outstanding and precise. I listen to classical music mostly (90%) along with a bit of rock music and others (10%). To me, it took about 20 hours of listening to break in.

With a bit more smarts, the headphones could be made to standby in a low power mode, then ramp up when it detected a signal from the transmitter. Maybe that's too much to ask for the price.

The $50 pair the same company sells is nice, and great for a work headset, but this is great for watching your movies at home. After listening to these, the only reason you will not have a pair for work and home *might* be the price - love them. That's what I wanted to do with this purchase, so mission accomplished. I have a friend that has an older set (HDR 130) of these head phones and I tried them out. Cost is about four times what my Grados cost, and even a few times more than some of the less expensive Sennheiser models. The manufacturer commented on the review below. The only "real" problem I've run into so far has to do with the charging time. They're supposed to be fully charged after 18 or 20 hours if I remember correctly.
