Sony Headphones - Sound Proof Headphones Review

By Nathan Robinson

I can walk into other rooms on the same floor without drop-off, though if I go upstairs from the base station, I do encounter some occasional zones where reception drops off. I can't say as how good the reception would be if I went outside to deck or yard -- an occurrence unlikely at the moment, since it's sub-zero outside where I live.

Battery life was great; the original batteries are still going strong. The Sound I thought was great.

I am so glad I spent the money for these headphones. I have been researching various models and brands and I decided to go with these due to the reviews here on Amazon. Quickly delivered, easy to set-up, light weight, comfortable, sound fantastic, and seem well built. I only wish I could sync them directly with my iPhone 3GS.

That said, contrary to how these headphones are described on Amazon, these headphones DON'T have "dynamic surround sound." I wish they did and I wonder why they don't, as the lower-level Model RS 170 headphones have surround sound.

The batteries last about the rated 24 hours before requiring a recharge. You do get about a half hour of warning that the batteries are getting close to being discharged.

Also, you have to turn the base on to listen to stuff. The previous models turned on automatically when there was a signal. I wanted wireless headphones with good battery life, sound quality, and comfort. I use these headphones for music, movies, and gaming. I find having the base besides the TV flashing at me all the time even more annoying than the complete idiocy of buttons that you can't feel. This is utterly ridiculous engineering. If you're going out jogging for miles, don't take anything for granted. Take in mind the open design though; if you're in the same room as someone who's planning on sleeping, you can't turn these up too high. I will experiment with them soon and update this review. Range can severely suffer if you start walking around corners or have too much between the headphones and the transmitter. I called Sennheiser customer service and they said to continue to use them and this would correct itself and if not to get back to them. They were easy to contact and their response was correct.

One other complaint, both the base unit and the headphones automatically shut off when the headphones are being recharged. Then both must be turned back on to use the headphones. Ah, I get it, customer meaning I have to customize the product. I bought these for work (at home.) I wanted something wireless, of decent quality with good range. I have not heard any interference or distortion due to it being wireless. These are the best wireless headphones ever.
