Mind Body And Soul: Italian Accordion Music

By Danielle Atkinson

Italian accordion music is really soothing. When you hear someone sings in Italian, you will have the sudden image of yourself in Italy, having the best meal of your life and seeing the beautiful scenery in town. In order to understand what it is, it is a box-shaped instrument and it is sometimes called a squeezebox.

The instrument was first introduced in Italy by the French people in the 18th century. After that, many factory owners began producing until today. One of the well-known musicians, Guido Deiro, was the one who first coined and use a piano accordion in 1910. One of his songs Kismet received the highest rank in a song chart and was used by movies in Hollywood.

Carmen Carrozza was also a famous artist. He was born on the 20th of July, 1921 in Calabria, Italy. He was interested in several instruments and began studying the piano, the violin and this instrument. He graduated in a music school and has received the highest award for his performance. Carmen was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the American accordionist association in 2002.

Another artist is Tony Lovello. He started to take interest in studying it at the age of five. His father is his first mentor and because of his interest and hard work, he quickly learned the basics and started playing 48 bass performing in the New York area. Tony retired from playing and decided to run a hotel. He later married his secretary, Jo Ellen.

He was seventeen when Mika Vyrynen first learned and played this instrument. When he reached the peak of success, he toured many countries like Japan, USA, China and mostly European countries. He was always present in a major Finnish orchestra and has worked with famous conductors of the world. He recorded more than 20 CDs since 1990.

These musicians have made beautiful Italian accordion music. Many people idolize them and began studying of their own to be a next generation musician. italian accordion music
