Arabic Music, The Industry

By Mike Shimun

Arabic Music was developed in early 5th and 7th century AD. Music was very important at this time as it cultivated the mystique of exorcists and magicians.

Today arabic music is mostly influenced by the major artists such as Amr Diab, Nancy Ajram, Elissa, Samira Said and many more. These artists implement current pop within their music to create a likeable melody and beat for young fans of current music.

Elissa is one of the most famous arab music artists. Her albums are 1999: Baddi Doub, 2000: W'akherta Ma'ak, 2002: Ayshalak, 2004: Ahla Donya, 2006: Bastanak, 2008: Ayami Beek and 2009: Tsadaq Bmein.

Right now, the music industry has suffered enough because of the amount of files the internet has been able to produce to people trying to download music instead of buying it. The decline in sales has put many record labels out of business and some even struggling to sell any albums.

The major sites that allow music to be downloaded are 6rb and 6rbtop which allow users to download full albums and mp3 files directly. These websites are hijacking the artists, and basically allow users to illegally obtain files, which have not been purchased or payed for, basically illegal activity.

Sites like bezmara.net or streamarabia.com are great websites as they focus more on the artists rather than the music files itself. They allow users to write about, and share thoughts through articles on the music industry and stream arabia.

Although the site Bezmara.net lets users register for an account, then pwrite artiscles relating to popular music, top music and share some forums around with others. Websites such as this one are great examples of sites trying to keep the arabic music industry stay alive.
