HDMI Repeater: Distance Is No More A Problem For HDTV

By Braden Kinstonelona

One of the latest revolutions in the television space has been the HDTV or high definition television. The pictures are crisper, the colors are better and overall the experience of viewing the pictures is in a class of its own. But with its growing demand comes some challenges. Given the quality of signal, it needs to be pretty good which means that HDMI cables can generally short. Now this puts a huge space restriction and HDMI repeater can help address that.

HDTV is not just a household phenomenon. With falling prices there are many other places too that have upgraded from standard televisions and screens to HD screens. Conference rooms are great examples of these. As a result, there is a growing demand for these models and people do not mind having more than one such units in the house.

Of course, the HDTV is not just a viewing medium, it is also about the experience. To get the true experience you may have to place the screen in a certain position and at a certain location. However, to keep the noise low, the HDMI cable lengths are typically limited. With longer lengths you would still get a signal but that would be noisy. In short the experience for which you bought that TV is lost.

With a simple unit called HDMI Repeater you can solve this problem. As the name suggests this is a signal repeater unit so it gets HDMI signal and it will just amplify and propagate it forward. There are some really interesting products of this kind in the market and typically they can extend the length of the cable by 50m to 100m.

The distances like 100m is more than enough for most kinds of layout plans you may have for your house and office rooms. So you do not lose out on the HDTV experience recreation and get great picture regardless of where you place the screen.

These repeaters are not just simple signal amplifiers, they also incorporate so degree of noise filtering. As a result of that you are not really looking at amplified noise in your signal. You would be seeing a the real HD picture though you are further away from the source.

Another great use of these repeaters is in conference rooms where you really do not want cables lying on the floor but at the same time the short cable lengths can be a challenge. These can help address those problems.
