Tunes You Do Not Want To Go Without Hearing

By Nikki Poppe

There's been a lot of great music that came out in August. I might even go so far as to say that this was my favorite month of the year for music releases. There are plenty of great albums that I spent a great deal of time listening to, and many of them came in the form of free files that I found at RCRD LBL, Spotify, and other providers out there. It's hard to top something like that.

I know you're probably wondering which releases I'm specifically talking about, so it's time for me to name a few. Due to time constraints I'm only going to share three here, but you'll be more than happy to have discovered any of these three once you hear them.

Do you know who Ry Cooder is? If you don't, your parents probably do because the man has been around forever. This doesn't mean that his best days are behind him, as Pull Up Some Dust & Sit Down is one of the best things he's ever created.

My number 2 pick is Stephen Malkmus with Mirror Traffic. The former Pavement front man has churned out another album to join the ranks of his consistently brilliant career.

No album hooked me more than Skying by The Horrors though. This is a must listen if you haven't heard it yet.

Looking forward, there's so much more good stuff on the way as well. Through the rest of the year, we'll see some of the top bands out there coming out with follow up efforts to their previous ones, and just about every single genre will experience a few highlights worthy of waiting for.

Indie lovers can't wait for Wilco to drop its next LP, and it's going to happen soon. Will they produce another Yankee Hotel Foxtrot?

Pop lovers have good reason to be excited, especially those who watched American Idol. Scotty McCreery is coming out with his first solo album. Then there's even Blink 182 making a big comeback and coming out with some new tunes.

Clearly, there's a lot to look forward to and that truly makes 2011 a special year in the music world.
