Do You Have What It Takes To Become A Concert Promoter

If you are a lover of music and want to incorporate it into a career of some sort, you have to start planning. You do not have to play a musical instrument to realize your ambitions. You can enter another area of the industry. You might decide to become a concert promoter for example. There are a lot of skill sets you'll have to develop to be a success in the job. It will require, marketing, communication, logistics, and management skills as well as being media savvy.

A college education is not a prerequisite for this kind of career. Whatever level of education you achieve will require knowing how to write well however. You may not be a natural writer. If not, you will need to take some courses in English vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure. You must be able to write good press releases. You have to learn what makes compelling copy. A love for reading will put your ahead of the game.

You will have to hone other skills before you can even be considered for a job promoting concerts. You might start a blog about the music and club scene in the town where you're attending college. It is important to learn how to take good photographs in nightclubs and how to manipulate those photos to improve the quality and make them stand out. You can post the best pictures on social media.

Successful promoters all agree that anyone who is interested in this business must first become a performer. You can take up an instrument or learn how to DJ. Whatever you decide, it is important to stick with it, so you will understand how the performers you book think and what is involved with putting on a show. You should be able to set up band gear and break it down.

When you begin your job search, you must have a relevant resume. Managers want to see writing samples and blogs when they interview job candidates who are looking for entry level positions. Qualified applicants will be proficient in graphics editing and with spreadsheets. Serious candidates will know the music scene and have strong opinions about which promoters they respect and why.

You must be detailed oriented to succeed in this business. You need to decide what area of the business most interests you. Some promoters excel at throwing parties while others specialize in celebrity club bookings.

The most successful promoters started by attending shows that were diverse in nature. They went to operas and rock concerts, electronic dance music festivals and jazz clubs. They studied what happened between sets, the type of security various groups used, and even who many drinks a bartender poured.

You will learn a lot of skills along the way. You will learn to be an effective marketing manager and discover the best ways of handling the wide array of volunteers necessary for big events. If you are a music lover and have a knack for what attracts audiences, you can become a successful promoter.
