You Can Improve Your Memory When You Learn To Read Music

By David Jones

People who want to improve their memory should learn to read music because studies show that learning to play music builds brain power. Most men and women believe that their mind and their memory begin to fail as they grow older but this is an unfounded belief. In fact some studies show that the brain actually becomes stronger with age but only if the mind is continually challenged with new learning tasks.

There is conclusive evidence that people who studied musical instruments in their early years of brain development have higher incidences of mental awareness into their elderly years. But it is never too late to study a musical instrument and some studies suggest that even people in their middle age years who learn to play a musical instrument are able to improve their memory and brain power. Learning a musical instrument is like learning a new language.

When a muscle is not exercised that muscle becomes weak from inactivity. The same can be said of the brain. If the mind is not exercised the brain becomes weak from inactivity.

One of the biggest problems many people suffer from is stress and anxiety that can lead to depression. Many people take anti depression medication in order to combat the symptoms of depression when in fact learning to play an instrument is a way to prevent stress and anxiety from leading to a state of depression. Many experts believe that learning to play the piano, a string instrument, or a woodwind, gives the mind a way to relax from the everyday stresses that cause anxiety and depression.

Many people are looking for something to make their lives more interesting. Many men and women complain that their lives have gotten into a rut and that the excitement and interest they once had in life is no longer present. But learning how to play music is a great way to challenge the mind and to recapture the enthusiasm for life that one once had.

Men and women who want to improve their memory and their overall mental capacity should learn to read music because learning a musical instrument expands the capacity of the mind. There is evidence that shows that learning to play music reduces the incidence of depression which is caused by high levels of stress and anxiety. Learning to play piano, a woodwind, or a percussion instrument, will reduce stress and improve brain functioning and memory.
