Diversity Of Broadcasts From Radio Stations Connecticut

Many listeners will find interesting broadcasts on radio stations Connecticut. A wide array of musical genres and talk shows are provided. Blues, hip hop, world, classical, rock and roll and jazz are among the varied music programming.

Wesleyan University's broadcasts can be found at 88.1 FM in Middletown. They have a long and rich history, with presentations of alternative programming beginning in 1939. NPR, Pacifica news and a broad spectrum of musical shows are featured on their schedule. A 2011 reader's poll conducted by the Hartford Advocate designated the entity as the region's 2nd most popular college broadcast group.

WMNR is based in Monroe. Their broadcasts focus on fine arts. It is a non-commercial entity, funded by listeners, businesses and foundations. Classical music accounts for more than 90 percent of their broadcast. They feature live summer concerts from the Boston Symphony Orchestra, presented from Tanglewood in Lennox.

WVOF, 88.5 FM, is operated by the students at Fairfield University. They focus on the broadcast of cultural, informative, entertaining shows. The rich programming schedule includes Celtic Crossroads, Jazz Attitudes, Irish Melodies and Polish Heritage. Talk shows such as All Things Considered supplement this diverse array of global music.

Another college-run entity is WRTC, 89.3 FM. Based at Trinity College in Hartford, their rich programming schedule includes jazz, classical, gospel, Latin and soul music. They provide online audio streams from their website.

As a member of the public broadcasting system, WMPR in Norwich broadcasts a wide array of shows. At 89.1 FM, listeners will find Living on Earth, Talk of the Nation, Car Talk, Prairie Home Companion, Where We Live, BirdNote and other notable talk shows. An array of music programming features Spotlight on Jazz, the Sunday Spotlight, the Saturday Night Special, and Blues and Beyond.

WSGG, 89.3 FM, presents Spanish programs. Located in Norfolk, the schedule includes music and talk. The weekday morning Children's Program and Heavy Generation are family-oriented. They provide music for the whole family 24 hours a day, every day.

Weaver High School presents urban contemporary programming. They can be found at 89.9 FM in the Hartford area. It was formed in the 1960s in order to provide services to their urban listening community. Schedule highlights include the Uptown Groove, the Vybez, Jazz Odyssey, Friday Flashback, Nite Traxx, Into the Night and Friday Gospel.

Regardless of preference, there are radio stations Connecticut suitable to all listeners. Whether interested in family programming, public broadcasts, college organizations or talk shows, there are many broadcasts available. Many broadcasters have websites which provide schedules, contact and historical information and live audio streams.
