Music Memorabilia and Autographed T-Shirts

By Angel Perez

Music as they say is the universal language. For thousands of years, music has brought the people together in a way that nothing else can. In the modern era more than any other music has become a link to each other that surpasses all cultural boundaries and geographic borders. Music is so much a part of our lives that it we cherish the things associated with the music that we love so as to keep the feelings alive. This music memorabilia is especially important when the music associated with it is tied to a special even or a moving memory.

The power that memorabilia and collectibles have over us is amazing. The link that they can create in our lives in truly astonishing and people will go to any length to own that special piece of musical history that they feel will give them a unique bond the song or performer that they love so much or which has had a deep impact on their life.

Many of the most popular collectibles related to music have nothing to do with the music itself. In fact it seems that the most sought after and cherished items have more to do with the performers as individuals. It's true that tickets to a concert or a signed album cover are very collectible and without a doubt very valuable, but things which are personal seem to make a stronger connection between the fans and the music.

An excellent example of this are pictures of a famous rock and roll star from the 1950's and 1960's who was drafted into the American military. Its not the fact that they are pictures of the king of rock and roll that makes them interesting and collectible, in fact just the opposite. The pictures in question are not of the celebrity performer on stage crooning out any of his number one hits, they are instead of him stripped to his tighty-whitie underpants, taking a physical and getting inoculations after he reported for military service to his country. This photos show a common man whom we can all relate to, not the super star we have grown to know. These pictures were found in an army photographers camera many years after the celebrities death and were auctioned off for well over a million dollars for the set of 24 images. This is a great example of how ANYTHING related to music can be collected and admired by those who love the music it is associated with.

The fact that someone was willing to pay such a high amount for something as trivial as those photographs is indicative of the power that music has over us and how much we love music memorabilia. Music related items are one of the most collectible and sought after items on popular auction websites. One of the most popular auction websites in the world actually has an entire department that specializes in Music related are, collectibles and memorabilia.

Another major area of music collectibles is music related art. This is incredibly popular among fans and art collectors alike. Everything from paintings to sculptures either of a performer or group or in some cases made by a performer or a member of a group, can have very high value and be prized by those who end up in possession of it. One of the most famous rock and roll stars of the 1970's and 1980's was discovered after his death to have been a very prolific and talented painter. The fans had always known of his artists talents since he had designed and sketched a great deal of the groups album art, but after he died his daughter showed the world the true power of her father's talent when she released a limited number of the over 300 paintings and 1000 drawing her dad had produced over his life.

Music related collectibles and memorabilia are a great way to bridge the gap of generations in families. One of the best things about music is that it can be appreciated despite the age of the person listening or the time that it was produced. Are Mozart's concertos any less moving by being so old? Will the messages of inner city violence and suffering contained in today rap music be any less relevant 50 years from now? No, music transcends and is universal not only to people but to generations as well. This means that as long as people have ears they will have a place in their heart form music and will want to collect the things associated with it.

It does not matter if you are a collector or if you are a loyal fan who has attended a concert for every album the performer has every released, the joy of music memorabilia can be shared and the value of the items can be held in both cash and memories. Music collectibles will have a market and a place in our hearts as long as humans have ears.
