Significant Points in maintaining a MIDI Keyboard

By Donald Grossy

One of the most vital things in music production is keeping your kit clean and functional. Why is this so important? It is important because you don't want to spend a bunch of money purchasing new equipment because you don't take care of your equipment right. One of the most vital bits of equipment is either your MIDI keyboard or your piano. If you look after your keyboards and pianos right, they're going to be working for you for a long time.

Keeping your MIDI keyboard clean can make your hardware work for a considerable time and not easily get busted. It will also make absolutely sure to produce the best sound quality practicable.

What not to do with plastic keys:

Use any chemical based cleaner.

Leave the keys exposed for a substantial period of time. This can cause the keys to modify tint.

Use any type of polish like Pledge.

General cleaning is merely to dust your keyboard particularly the keys continually. You can buy those brushes with all of the delicate bristles so they won't damage the finish of piece of equipment and it keys. You can use an air blower to blow away the dust from those hard to reach areas between the keys. Just make sure not to seat the mist nozzle in close proximity as it could cause freezing which might harm the electronics. Vacuum-cleaning will also help when you get rid of the dust and dirt.

Every once in a while, you'll need to use luke-warm water and vinegar with a clean chamois leather. After you do that, you can shine the keys by buffing. Cleaning the remainder of the outside of your keyboard is critical too. A vacuum can suck up excess dust and anything more on the surface. Employ a soft clean material to wipe the rest of the surface down.

You may be pro-active in caring for your MIDI keyboard. For example before starting using it scrub your hands to get rid of any body oils and dead skin that may be left on the keys. You can also use a cover when not using your kit to prevent dust from collecting on it.

It can also help if you don't drink or eat anything when you are using or playing with the keyboard. Even though you are careful you won't notice all those little crumbs that may fall into the cracks or between keys which can probably attract ants that can create havoc with the circuits.

The simplest way to do it is to regularly clean everything even if you do not see any mud on it. This way you set the routine to wash and not forget all about it - it also helps to keep things from building up and making it tougher to clean in the future.

A small love and sensitivity can actually help in making your MIDI keyboard running for a substantial period. If you take care of the cleaning regimen you can stop plenty of possible perils that can affect its performance so it doesn't influence your performance when you need it.
