Pink Floyd's remastered "Discovery" box set is likely to be the biggest selling rock music box set release since The Beatles box sets in 2009.
The Pink Floyd Discovery Box Set contains a total of 16 discs. That's all 14 Pink Floyd albums from 1967 through 1994. It includes 16 discs instead of just 14 because two of their albums are double disc albums (Ummagumma and The Wall.)
While many Floyd fans already have all 14 of their albums, what makes this box set interesting is that it includes new remastered versions of each of Pink Floyd's albums. They were digitally remastered by a producer named James Guthrie who was a co-producer for The Wall in 1979.
For those who aren't intimate with the band's back catalog this new box set is an amazing way to "discover" it. What better way to hear Pink Floyd's incredible music for the first time than with great digitally remastered sound? I would suggest listening to these albums in order of their release date so you can hear Pink Floyd's fantastic journey from their "interstellar" beginnings with Syd Barrett to the David Gilmour era in the 1980s and '90s.
And there are Pink Floyd fans who know their very popular albums such as The Dark Side of the Moon like the back of their hand but who have never fully delved into the band's other albums. I'm a big fan of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Animals, and Meddle. I actually enjoy all three of those albums more than The Wall, despite its massive popularity
In addition to the Discovery Remastered CD Box Set, there are also three "Immersion" box sets being released; one for each of their three most well known albums; 1973's The Dark Side of the Moon, 1975's Wish You Were Here, and 1979's The Wall. Each of these Immersion box sets contains from five to seven discs focused on just that one album! That may seem like overkill to some, but these are really amazing albums and really do deserve that kind of "immersion."
The Pink Floyd: Oh By The Way CD Box Set is the "old way" of getting all of this legendary band's albums in one go. It contains the old versions of their studio albums.
