Relive The Old Days With Rat Pack Tribute Shows

By Shane McConnell

In the beginning of the 1960's, nothing said 'cool' quite like Frank Sinatra and the other men who made up The Rat Pack. Started by actor Humphrey Bogart, this group included such legendary stars as Dean Martin, Peter Lawford and Sammy Davis, Jr. In addition to the many concerts that the group performed together, they were also part of the classic film Ocean's 11. Today, fans can see them in Rat Pack tribute shows.

Although he may not be the first name that comes to mind when people think of this group, Humphrey Bogart is one of the original members. It was actually his wife, movie star Lauren Bacall, who gave them their name after they spent a night on the town in Las Vegas. Upon returning home, Bacall looked at them and commented that they resembled a rat pack.

Frank Sinatra, one of the most famous members of the pack, began his career singing swing music in the 1940's. After a bit of a lull in his career, he found stardom again when he won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his work in the film From Here To Eternity. He signed with Capitol Records and began recording the classic music and would make him a legend and a member of The Rat Pack.

Dean Martin is yet another star who has made a name for himself primarily as a member of this elite group. While looking for his break in Hollywood during the 40's, he became acquainted with Jerry Lewis and formed one of the best loved comedy duos ever. They broke up after ten years together and Dean started spending more time with Frank Sinatra and the others.

Although the original members of The Rat Pack may be gone, they live on in Rat Pack tribute shows. These shows are a great way for older people to relive their past and for younger generations to experience a time gone by. Whether planning a corporate event or a special party at home, they are a form of entertainment that will surely bring back many great memories.
