Are Online Guitar Lessons Better Than Private Ones?

By Jack Wogan

Choosing between online guitar lessons and private ones is not very difficult to do if you know exactly what you want. It all depends on how much money you want to invest, how much time you have for the lessons, whether you like working alone or under the guidance of a teacher and if you think that the traditional methods suit you better than the modern ones. There is of course a third option to learn how to play the guitar, which is going to a music school. This is suitable mostly for young students who want to make a career out of this activity.

Since money is something most of us think about when starting a new activity, including hobbies like playing the guitar, a comparison between the costs of online lessons and private ones has to be made. Hiring a teacher can be quite expensive for some people, but the results are usually worth the investment. Those who do not want to spend so much money on guitar lessons choose the online ones. They are also excellent sources of information and cost way less. Sometimes video tutorials can be completely free.

Time is also an important criterion to consider. People who lead a busy life do not have time to go to classes on a regular basis. So, for them, taking private classes might not be a wise solution. A good teacher will always keep track of the progress and give the student a push when he needs it. In the case of online lessons it is only up to the student how motivated he is to make progress. The downside is that private lessons are scheduled in advance which is not very suitable in the case of busy people.

Besides reminding you how willing you were to learn in the beginning, a teacher can also help you find your own learning style. He can guide you throughout the whole process until you reach your goal. Online lessons are also designed by professionals in the music industry which is why they are very effective too. However, in the case of online lessons it is more up to the student to find his own learning style.

4. Information. Like any other new activity, taking guitar lessons is very exciting. You want to know everything about it, how you can become the best, what it takes for you to learn and what you need to own. Both a teacher and online lessons can offer you information for example concerning accessories, guitars and so on. For example a good teacher would tell you that you need a fender guitar or a cort one or some other professional brand to start learning the right way.

Thinking about these four criteria and being honest about your goals you can decide easily which is better for you: online lessons or private ones.
