By Paul de Vizard

A lot of people become interested in learning how to play electric guitar. Teens often want to learn so they can be just like their favorite music stars. The good news it that anyone can learn to play just like a professional rock musician. The key to becoming as good as a professional is in the dedication and persistence a person has in learning how to play this popular instrument.

The first thing a new student will learn is music theory. Knowing the background behind music styles will help the student to master the type of music he or she would like to play. Theory also includes learning about the different parts that make up this particular instrument. New students need to recognize the strings and frets in order to accurately play the various chords and notes.

Learning about tablatures is vital. You need to learn how to read the musical notations and what symbols denote. A P tells you to use a pull off technique. H represents a hammer-on. Vibrato is shown by a V. Familiarize yourself with all these symbols until they are second nature and you can naturally follow their instruction. In your practice time repeat different chords until you can easily transition from one chord to another. As soon as you are familiar with a good number of chords try playing songs using these chords. There are many tablatures online or in music stores.

Practice playing chords and songs using tablatures. You can readily find tablatures for beginners online and in the dedicated music stores. It is a good idea to start playing actual songs on the guitar as soon as you get familiar with the theory and terminology. After all, the aim of the guitarist is to put chords together to produce music.

The objective in learning to play a guitar is to learn about the guitar, the music and the applications. When a student knows what is necessary for creating the sound, he or she can easily play any music style they want. The purpose of learning the theory and the notes is to put the two together to create music.

Practice every day to learn how to play electric guitar. You should spend an hour practicing each day of the week. Play the instrument and listen to the music that you produce. You have to be certain that you are playing the tones correctly.
