By Ruben F. Davis

Ipods are everywhere these days and used for listening to music on the go, taking pictures and watching videos. The players can cost a pretty penny to have replaced should anything happen to them and most types of damage are not covered under the manufacturers warranty. Should your device come into contact with water of any kind, trying to fixing it yourself can save a lot of money. Here are a few iPod Touch water damage repair tips that can be tried to breathe life back into a damaged device.

Keeping the devices power off is very important. Should the item be turned back on before it has a chance to completely dry out, the parts inside can be permanently damaged. Looking into the headphone jack and determining if the ring inside is red or pink will tell you if there is water damage for sure.

Airing out the SIM card if the device has one and should be done next. Using a cloth that isn't going to leave lint on the card, carefully dry it off by dabbing it until the visible water is gone. You will need something to pop out the card if the removal tool is not available. The tip of a paperclip or thumb tack works well.

Drying out the inside of the phone is critical. User will need a blow dryer in order to do this. Taking the hair drying and positioning it above the open slot on one end and then other should help to get all the fluid out. The dryer needs to be set on cold or a very low heat setting. Before turning it on give the device a couple shakes to make sure the majority of the fluid is out. The air drying should be done for 10 minutes on each end.

In order to complete the attempt at home repair you will need a plastic bag and some rice. The rice is a tried and true method to help collect moisture. The trick is to fill the plastic bag with white rice and then to put the device in completely covered. Leaving the item this way for about three days should help to draw out the rest of the remaining moisture.

When your comfort level is high enough, take the unit out and give it a few light shakes to make sure that all the condensation has come out of the unit. If it is dry you can move on in the process.

Once you feel comfortable with turning the player back on, you will want to check to make sure everything is working like it should. The only thing left to do is re-insert the SIM card and start listening to all your tunes.
