The Many Options For Piano Online Free

By Maria Torres

Piano online free games, virtual keyboards, and lessons, will provide hours of musical enjoyment and education, for pianists of any age or proficiency level. Free resources allow students to test out the instrument, before committing to expensive lessons. Additionally, free resources allow advanced players to learn new skills, or to branch out into new genres, when appropriate teachers are not available in their geographic area.

Some websites offer fun and creative piano games. By using the mouse to click on an on-screen keyboard, or by using keys on the computer keyboard which correspond with an on-screen piano keyboard, students have the ability to play games which will teach them basic skills. Games are designed to appeal to a wide range of students, from beginners and children, to advanced players and adults.

Virtual keyboards also offer fun features. By clicking keys with the mouse, or by pressing corresponding keys from the computer keyboard, students produce virtual piano sounds. Virtual keyboards may offer drum machine and demo features, as well as recording options, so that musicians can record and play back music.

Some sites offer sheet music and instructional e-books at no cost. Sheet music is available in a variety of genres, although pianists who download need to make sure they are following copyright guidelines. Free e-books may also be downloaded, usually in PDF format, and will feature written instructions, in addition to music for practice.

Some people turn to the web for piano lessons. Internet-based teachers may use music notation, or they may teach students to play by ear. If teachers use notation, students will be able to download lessons, videos, or e-books which teach basic music theory, such as staff notation, and rhythmic notation. Other lessons may include keyboard layout, chords, technique, and improvisation.

Most teachers who teach by ear provide videos for download. Videos will teach students to play popular songs, patterns, and chords on their pianos. Many advanced students, who would like to learn in a new genre, like jazz, will benefit from learning to play by ear. Students who are intimidated by notation will also become competent players, even without the benefit of learning to read music.

Online lessons may not be for everyone. No type of lesson, either virtual or traditional, will make great players out of students who do not practice. Children may also not be the best candidates for internet-based lessons (even though they may enjoy games and other resources), because they often need more structure and routinization. For older students, however, internet-based lessons offer the advantage of allowing learning at the student's pace, as long as students make time for regular practice.

Piano online free resources, from games to lessons, offer an enjoyable alternative to traditional lessons. Often, no-cost initial offerings are designed to lead people to purchase video lessons, or e-books. Before making a purchase, students should look for a program which offers a sample lesson, to get a preview of the course and the teacher's style. In addition, students should avoid plans which promise that they will produce professional results overnight. Piano, like all things worth learning, requires practice and dedication.
