An Uncomplicated Help Guide For House Music

By Clayton Grant

With a tempo usually above 100 beats per minute as it is music used for dancing in clubs and other venues. In early house music this beat was a lot less fast. A sampler or drum machine is often used to create a strong drum beat. On a normal drum kit this would be created by the kick drum. To make the music more interesting this drum beats changes and drops in and out during the piece.

The drumming styles used in Disco music in the 1960's and 1970's are said to have had a great influence on the drumming styles used in modern times. High hats are used to add increased variety to the piece as well as the kick drum (mentioned earlier) which drop in and out of the track.

A technique called sampling is almost always used in this type of track. These are short instrumental or vocal sections of a piece that have been extracted from one piece and added in to another. This process can been done with any type of track as house musicians regularly take samples from soul, jazz and funk music as well as pop and other music played in clubs. The structure of the piece is usually very simple, with a verse chorus and middle eight. The chorus will be repeated several times and the verses are usually very short as the lyrics are not as important as in other songs.

Although Trance and Techno seem very like House (they do share common factors) they are not exactly the same. They are however played in many of the same locations such as bars, clubs and raves and also share a lot of the same features and stem from the same influences.

This musical style was originally very exclusive to the gay community and other minority groups. The name came from a club situated in Chicago during the 1960's which was called the "Warehouse". It was this club that first popularised House music, a whole new style of dance track. It is now however played all around the world and is sung in almost every language imaginable.

This style of song was not instantly widely popular and well liked, at first it was in fact only listened to by a very small and select few. It was popular with the minority groups in society such as Latino and gay men in America. It is today however listened to by a huge variety of people from all cultures all around the world. One of the reasons that it sells so well is the simple structure, to which it is made.

House music use to often have political messages especially about the right of the minorities. However in the twenty first century the majority of these songs do not have a political message.

House music is now a common occurrence in everyday life as it is common that you will hear it not only in clubs but on television or on the radio. Having infiltrated the mainstream culture now has found a firm place in everybodys lives.
