Bands To Make Running An Pleasurable Hobby

By Frank Samford

If you have ever gone through a period of time where you run a lot, you know how great it feels.

Take it from me, as I hate running.

Aside from running outside (instead of on a monotonous treadmill), another great way to get your spirits going on a run is a great soundtrack. Here are some of my favorite songs to get me running when I really don't want to be.

The Postal Service is a fantastic album to run with, as it keeps a consistent beat and has some words to distract you. I like how in "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight," it speeds up in the middle of the song.

Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, by Phoenix is another great one. I don't know why it took Phoenix so long to get popular in the US but this album rocks. Track 1, Lisztomania is probably my favorite track to start with on a run.

As I write this article, I sit listening to "Get Innocuous" by LCD Soundsystem. Just one amazing song of his to run to. Another great one is "All My Friends". Clearly the key with all this is to find music with a great beat.

I enjoy running to Stadium Arcadium by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. This album reminds me of summer and has a positive vibe to keep me going on a long run. IT is technically a double album, so you don't have to worry about a shortage of songs or flipping through your ipod mid run. There are a few tracks on this album that you have to skip over, but when songs like "Snow" and "Charlie" come on, it's worth it.

Another great album to run to is Kanye West's College Dropout. Aside from the fact that you already know every song by heart on this album, Kanye's silly lyrics are entertaining enough to keep your mind off running. Just don't sing along out loud because it will waste energy.
