I was really amazed at the quality of sound and the range as you can go anywhere in the house or outdoors on your property and listen to high quality music. The first week I got them I made everyone that came over listen to the sound, it was that surprisingly good. Guys if you are ever banished to the Man Cave and still catch hell for the TV or movie being up too loud......worry no more. I realize they are a lot of money (I managed to get mine for under $230) but I think in the long run they are going to be worth every penny. Your mileage may differ. The base-station cradle unit is relatively compact and hides behind my wide-screen LCD display, out of sight. You've got to memorize what they do and find them by touch. Too easy to accidentally turn the phones off when all you wanted to do was adjust the volume.
Our old headphones were more convenient in that respect. They had rounded bottoms. The digital system prevents the hiss often present in analog wireless. I don't ask much, in the terms of "range"; I'm sitting but 10-15 feet from the base-station.
Voices were diffused and the effects were too front and center. Also, I had to play with my receiver volume & the headphone volumes several times through my listening today.
I will experiment with them soon and update this review. Range can severely suffer if you start walking around corners or have too much between the headphones and the transmitter. I have not heard any interference or distortion due to it being wireless. These are the best wireless headphones ever. I knew I had to have a set of my own. When I started looking I didn't have to look very far. This out-of-phase problem is not something I hadn't heard about before. Prior to purchasing the 180's I read reviews to the extent they existed (the 180's are a new product) and found a review where this problem was pointed out. I tried various combinations of volume levels on the headphone and on my amp, but I couldn't resolve the issue. I talked to a Sennheiser rep to get around the issue, but I figured that they don't have solutions to this either. Once I got used to them, it's fairly easy to adjust without hitting the power button. These headphones are exactly what I wanted and I'm so glad they are lossless so I can listen to my music at CD quality. They are just Ni-Cad AAA batteries so you should just be able to replace them with standard, inexpensive rechargeable AAAs when they eventually die. Build quality is excellent.
Since it cannot process the lossless codecs via bit stream, everything was fed to it as PCM. This caused the receiver to automatically apply its own processing (aptly named Headphone 2CH).
